What happens to post after I check out?

By hannahk 07 May 2024

Forgetting to change your address is easily done but here’s your reminder as to what will happen to any post that arrives to halls after you've departed.

The last thing you want to do is order something online during the summer before realising you've not changed your postal address! Taking 10 minutes to do some online admin and change your address can save a whole load of hassle!

Here's what happens to your post after leaving halls...

Once students have checked out, our halls teams will go through the mailboxes and will try their best to make sure post is ‘Returned to Sender’ via Royal Mail. It’s really important that you check your mailbox before you hand your keys in when departing.

Unfortunately, our halls cannot accept parcels for students who have already departed halls. If you’ve accidentally ordered something to your hall, reach out to your reception team to let them know as soon as possible. However, it’s not guaranteed that your hall can receive or store the items for you after you've checked out.

Before you check out of halls, have a think about where you’ll need to change your postal address. Here's some examples of who you'll need to change your address with:

  • Amazon
  • Online retailers
  • Subscriptions
  • Bank
  • GP, Hospital, Dentist

You don't want to make the mistake of sending important post, such as a new passport, to an old address that you no longer live at. Remember to change your address to wherever you move for the next academic year.
