Travelling around the City and to Greenbank

By sophiebk 17 Sep 2020

If you're going to be living at Greenbank Student Village then you'll be thinking about how you're going to travel in to the University Campus.

Greenbank Halls are approximately 3.5 miles from the University Campus/City Centre and students are discouraged from driving as parking is very limited, plus we'd like to encourage more eco-friendly ways of getting around! You can see a map of Greenbank Student Village here. Walking takes around an hour but most students will take the bus or cycle.

Getting the bus

The university service - the 699 - runs between Greenbank and the University Campus. The journey usually takes between 15 - 20 minutes depending on the time of day.

If you're going to be using the bus as your main way of getting to and from University we would recommend you get a Bus Pass. Liverpool Guild of Students are offering an exclusively discounted rate if you come into the Guild shop in person and buy a pass when you arrive - you can learn more about this here. Your bus pass also allows you to travel on other Arriva buses in Merseyside and the North West. You can also download the handy MerseyTravel Journey Planner.

Please make sure you read Arriva's Coronavirus Safe Travel guidance here and make sure you remember that social distancing and face coverings are mandatory on all public transport.

Cycling

Greenbank Student Village is a 3.5 mile cycle from Campus through two beautiful parks and along designated cycle routes.  We always encourage students to cycle to Campus, and if you have a bike then we strongly encourage you to bring it with you. You can also rent a bike from the BiKiosk in the Guild where you can also get expert advice and repairs for any issues you're having with your bike.

Storage

There is plentiful bike storage at Greenbank and you can get access to these when you arrive. On Campus we have secure cycle storage units / Bike Pods which are free to use. You can see all campus cycle storage locations on the campus map. We would also recommend registering your bike with Campus Support. You can read more about this here.

Driving

We have very limited spaces available for students to bring their cars with them to University. We only recommend you do this if you require it for a specific reason such as placements, a medical requirement or care responsibilities.

We have some parking available at Melville and at Greenbank Student Village. To apply, please email the Accommodation Team accommodation@liverpool.ac.uk with the reasons required. The team will assess your need and if successful, you will receive the link to the online shop to pay in early September.
