RA CPD - Drugs training - 4th May

By eknowles 18 Mar 2024

This Semester we are offering the chance to the RA team to take part in drugs training led by Liam Watson from www.drugstraining.com.

The session will take place on Saturday 4th May, 9.15am-1.5pm and is a half day course titled: STUDENTS AND SUBSTANCE USE: drugs, booze and ‘smart pills’, and looks at the changing trends of substance use amongst students and provides practical advice on helping students remain safe – in relation to both students physical and mental health.

Areas covered include:

  • how and why patterns of drug and alcohol use are changing amongst students
  • the impact of new psychoactive substances (NPS)
  • an understanding of the problems associated with excessive alcohol consumption and the dangers of ‘alcohol overdose’
  • the role that the internet and social media are playing in changing students access to drugs
  • the role that Cognitive Enhancement Drugs such as Modafanil are playing in student life and the motivations behind their increasing use by students
  • appropriate harm reduction advice to give to those using particular substances
  • the law in relation to the use and supply of both illegal and ‘legal’ drugs on university premises

The training session will take place on Zoom. This is a half day session, however there will be lots of regular short breaks built in.

Please note: a similar training was also offered last academic year, so if you attended last year's session (April 2023) you do not need to attend this training again, unless you feel you would benefit from refresher training.

Please note, this session is for Residential Advisers as part of the RA CPD programme, and is not open more widely to Hall residents.
