Life as a HSC member & living in Halls

By hannahk 30 May 2023

Tudor HSC member and resident, Prajul, tells us all about his experience being a part of his Halls' Student Committee...

Moving away from home for the first time can feel pretty overwhelming, but trust me, living in university accommodation is the way to go when it comes to transitioning into student life. Personally, I decided to stay in Tudor Close because it's super close to the management school, the sports complex, and the Guild. Plus, the best part is that I instantly made friends with a bunch of cool people from different countries and continents. The Delhi guy and the Canadian girl are my favourites!!

I joined the Halls Student Committee (HSC), and it turned out to be one of the best decisions I ever made. The HSC is a group of students who represent the interests of everyone living in a particular hall of residence. We would get together once a week to chat about important student activities, plan events for the upcoming months, and work with the university to make our halls an awesome place to live. I joined because I wanted to make a positive impact on the lives of my fellow residents. Since Tudor Close had a lot of international exchange students, it was crucial to make sure they had the best time possible. I was really passionate about giving everyone a voice and creating an inclusive and welcoming environment. Plus, I wanted to improve and enhance my leadership, communication and other transferable skills, and the HSC seemed like the perfect opportunity to do just that.

I really enjoyed my time at the HSC. I met some amazing people, and I learned a lot about their culture, food, traditions, and about how to work with students from various backgrounds and interests. We organized numerous events which included movie and pizza nights, summer picnic to Llandudno, quiz nights, etc.

The best part came when we won the Halls’ Student Committee of the Year award at the Guild Awards Night 2023!! It was such an awesome achievement, and it was all thanks to the dedication of our amazing HSC members who worked hard to build a strong student community through all the activities and events we organized throughout the year.

I would definitely recommend joining the HSC to any student who is thinking about it. It is a great way to make new friends, develop your leadership skills, and make a difference to the lives of other students.

Here are some of the things I enjoyed most about being on the HSC:

• Making new friends: I met some amazing people through the HSC, and I made some lifelong friends.
• Learning new skills: I learned a lot about leadership, event planning, and communication through the HSC.

• Making a difference: I was able to make a real difference to the lives of other students through the HSC.

So, if you're up for an amazing adventure during your time at university, don't hesitate to join the HSC. Trust me, you won't regret it!
