Staying in Halls over the Winter Break

Posted 1 week ago

Spending the festive season in Halls?

While some of you will stay in Halls over the break, lots of other students might go home or travel during that time. Here's everything you need to know about what to expect during the break...

Staying in Halls? Let us know!

If you will be staying in Halls between Saturday 21st December 2024 - 3rd January 2025, please be sure to email your Hall reception team just to let them know. All you need to do is use the email address below and confirm what dates you'll be around as well as your Student ID number and Room Number.

What's on...

For those of you staying in Halls over the break, here's what you can get involved in:

  • Halls for the Holidays Mixer - enjoy some pizza & drinks while meeting other students staying in Halls over the winter break! Head to Vine Mezz at 6pm on Wednesday 18 December - find out more here.
  • Christmas Gifts - Merry Christmas from the Halls Life team! Pick up a Christmas gift from underneath your reception's christmas tree from 10am on 25th December. Gifts are first come, first served - find out more here.
  • Halls Life Craft Night - unwind after a busy holiday season & join us for the first craft night of the new year on 8th January at 6pm in Vine Mezz. Find out more here.

Changes in Halls services...

Rest assured that your Hall reception will continue to be open 24 hours a day and 7 days a week (including Christmas Day and New Year) meaning that a member of reception will be around at all times no matter what you need help with.

Cleaning services will pause from Friday 20th December and resume on Thursday 2nd January.

Over Christmas bins will be emptied at least once through the week - only students who have informed the team they are staying on site will have their bins emptied. Reception can provide you with access to the bin store outside of these dates to remove your rubbish.

  • Living in a catered room at Vine Court? The Flexi Food Plan is available during term time only. The catering food plan will not be available from 16th December - 3rd January. Catering services will resume at Bertie & Bella's from Saturday 4th January.
  • Living in Greenbank Student Village? There will be a reduced 699 bus service running between 23rd December - 6th January. If you will be staying at Greenbank over the break, you can find Arriva bus services in the city centre from Smithdown Road (75, 80, 80a).

Looking after yourself and other residents

Naturally the winter break is a quieter time on campus and in Halls as some students choose to travel, go home or visit friends. Personal safety is important all year round but during this period, please don't forget to:

  • Be vigilant about who enters the site - don't let anyone tailgate you
  • Ensure your doors close properly
  • Take extra security precautions
  • Inform your reception team of anything you're unsure of or worried about
