5 Sustainable Actions this November

Posted 2 weeks ago

Welcome to November's 5 Sustainable Actions

As part of Sustainable Halls, our year-long programme of events and all things sustainability, we're bringing you monthly actions to help shape your experience in Halls to be just that bit more sustainable.

Following on from Recycle Week in October, November’s theme is Reduce, Reuse, Recycle where we’ll be promoting positive actions you can take to be more sustainable in Halls as well as highlighting the sustainable successes Halls have achieved (see our article if you haven’t already!). November will also see the first recycling audit of this academic year.

Becoming 'more sustainable' is a big phrase and can mean so many things. While you're living with us in Halls, we're here to help guide you on taking those small steps you can take as a flat or an individual!

Here’s November’s 5 HALLS Actions:

Help Out - Is your education fit for a sustainable future? There’s still time to sign up as a Curriculum Mapping volunteer and map your modules against the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and decolonisation criteria. More information can be found here

Activity - We have lots of activities happening to help you reduce, reuse and recycle! Have a go at paper making, clothes repair and you can come along to the Guild’s Black Friday swap shop

Listen - Want to learn more about sustainability, ethics and transparency in the fashion industry? Check out Fashion Revolution’s podcast here.

Learn On 25th November we’ll be hosting our first Sustainable Halls masterclass. Grab a snack and hot drink, meet like-minded people and learn more about recycling in Halls and have a go at some recycling crafts.

Share - November also marks 'Buy Nothing New Month' to encourage us to reduce our carbon footprint, avoid buying anything new (especially during Black Friday). Follow @keepbritaintidy on Instagram and share your #BuyNothingNew tips and ideas to inspire others to take part. Find out more about the campaign here.

As always, let us know about your reduce, reuse and recycling wins by tagging @livunihalls in your Instagram posts and stories
