Certified first aid training is a mandatory part of the RA training programme.
Building on the basic first aid training you receive at RA Conference, RAs are also expected to complete a one day course that leads to the IQL Level 3 Emergency First Aid at Work qualification. The training will cover a range of CPR and first aid skills, enabling you to give first aid to someone who is injured or becomes ill whilst at work.
Four opportunities to completed this training will be offered across the academic year, with options for a full day course on a Saturday, or two half day sessions across subsequent Wednesday afternoons. There will be sessions running across the academic year: two in Semester One and two in Semester Two (one each of the Sat/Wed options per Semester).
RAs are expected to sign up to and complete one of these sessions unless you already hold this qualification (in date).
These training sessions will be led by Katie Lynch from Sport Liverpool, will normally take place at the Sports and Fitness Centre on Campus. Saturday sessions will typically running between 9.30am and 3.30/4pm (with a break for lunch) and Wednesday sessions will take place between 2pm and 4pm (if booking a Wednesday session, you need to be available for both listed dates for part 1 and part 2 in order to receive the qualification). The training involves a mix of practical work and theoretical classroom work and the qualification you will receive at the end of the training is valid for three years.
Dates for the sessions taking place have been confirmed as:
- Saturday 18th October
- Wednesday 5th and 12th November
- Saturday 7th February
- Wednesday 11th and 18th March
Spaces at each training session are strictly limited to 12 people in total and sign up will be on a first come, first served basis. As over half of the team are expected to require this training this year and as spaces per session are limited, there will only be scope to sign up to one date across the year. It is vital that when you select a date to sign up to that you ensure you are available on this date(s) and that you are able to attend for the full hours given.
Please be aware that when signing up, your details (name and email address) will be shared with Katie Lynch ahead of the session, who may contact you with further information ahead of the session.
