Checking out soon? Everything you need to know

Posted 5 days ago

It's almost time to say farewell to Halls ๐Ÿ”‘

With summer around the corner, lots of you will be saying farewell to living in Halls soon. This part of your university chapter is almost over (๐Ÿ˜ช) but fear not, our handy moving-out article has everything you need to know to make the move out process as smooth as possible.

Check out date & time ๐Ÿ“…

Get to know your departure date and time. If you are a first year undergraduate student, this will be Saturday 14th June. If you're unsure of the time you need to check out by, just speak to the team in your Hall's reception.

Need to stay in Halls over summer? Don't forget you can apply for Summer Accommodation in Melville Grove - find out more here.

No mess, no stress ๐Ÿงผ

Before you hand in those keys, it's time to take your room from messy to move-out ready. So, please:

  • Clean your room and ensuite thoroughly (we're talking vacuuming your room, wiping the surfaces, cleaning any spills)
  • Remove all personal items from your room, ensuite, kitchen, communal area
  • Remove rubbish, items and food from your kitchen (check the fridge and all cupboards)
  • Use your kitchen bin for small waste items and use the skips for larger items (see your recent departure email for details)
  • Donate your unwanted items to British Heart Foundation & Fareshare

You can find our handy spring-clean advice here!

Leave Liverpool Tidy ๐Ÿ’š

Donating your unwanted items has never been easier! Save your belongings from going to waste and donate them to two incredible charities in your Hall reception.

Donate unwanted clothes, shoes, books, accessories, cutlery, small electricals to British Heart Foundation. Simply bag up your items in a Leave Liverpool Tidy bag (from reception) or in your own bag and label it 'LLT'.

Donate unopened, non-perishable food items to Fareshare e.g. dried pasta, jars, tins. Click here for what you can/cannot donate.

Checking out ๐Ÿ”‘

Before you close your door for one final time, check for any left items! Look under the bed, in cupboards, wardrobes as you don't want to be half way home and realise you forgot something important. Plus, it's your responsibility to remove all your items from your flat.

If you leave any high value items behind (e.g. passport, drivers license, laptop), your Hall will contact you and store for a short period. All other items will be donated to charity, recycled or disposed of. See your recent departure email for more details.

When checking out, please:

  • Secure your windows and doors
  • Return your key card and any metal keys to reception
  • Sign out at reception and inform a member of staff that you are departing
  • Check your mail box for any final post
  • Return any trollies to reception as quickly as possible (these are subject to availability so please be mindful of others who might be waiting to use one)

Bringing a car to check out? See your departure email from reception to find out about car parking or ask a member of the team at reception beforehand.

Change addresses ๐Ÿ“Œ

There's nothing worse than ordering something online and realising it's gone to your old accommodation! Once you've ordered something online, it's often too late to change the address.

Don't forget to change your online banking, apple pay, amazon, asos account, whatever it may be to your new address. Be sure to update family and friends too. Your Hall can hold items for a small period of time but eventually it will be returned to sender.
