Twice a year, we run the Global Student Living survey and ask our residents for honest feedback on living in University Halls. Your feedback helps us consider positive changes that can help shape the future of our accommodation.
We’ve listened to the feedback from our 2024/25 surveys and here's what we've been up to since.
You asked for…
We included events exclusively for students living in studios in this year’s Halls Welcome programme with a studio mixer in September, as well as pre-event mixers aimed at residents who want to meet others before attending an event.
A postgraduate mixer featured in this year’s Halls Welcome programme and we’ll continue to run postgrad exclusive events throughout the year – next one coming up on 11th November!
Since introducing alcohol-free flats in 2024/25, we added alcohol-free events in the Halls Life programme. During Welcome Week, we hosted an alcohol-free mixer at the same time as our AJ pub social to give you choice on what suit you better. An alcohol-free Cosy Night In on campus and at Greenbank featured in this year’s programme too.
We continued with an alcohol-free way to celebrate spooky season at this year’s Halloween Craft Night.
To see what else is coming up, look out for the ‘alcohol free’ tag on the Halls Life website and alcohol-free badge on our social media.
In September 2025 we introduced ‘quiet hours’ at some of our larger Halls Welcome events to help you ease into the night.
We have previously trialled using meeting room one in Crown Place as a study space during exam season.
With dedicated study areas already in Greenbank, Vine Court, Philharmonic and Dover Court, we recognise that Crown Place also needs a space. We plan to offer this a quiet, drop in study space in Crown Place in January and May 2026.
As we get closer to exam season, we’ll also send residents a reminder of Greenbank’s Library as we realise not everyone knows about it.
Feedback shows that last year’s residents enjoy flat-based competitions.
To meet demand, we introduced a flat baking contest during Welcome Week and a spooky competition at Halloween. Our competitions are based on cooking, baking, crafting and decorating to help you and your flatmates bond. All of our prizes are flat-based activities so if you’re a lucky winner, you can celebrate with your victory with the rest of your flatmates!
Stay tuned for our Christmas competition coming soon!
While the team are working towards refresh the photos of Halls on the Accommodation website (see below), the Halls Life website installed a drop down under the ‘Accommodation’ tab over the summer.
This part of the website helps you access more Hall specific articles and includes links to virtual tours, a list of facilities onsite, room colours and information you’d want to know before arrival.

In August we launched an Instagram broadcast channel on @livunihalls so that you won’t miss a thing! We share updates, events, activities and opportunities so if you join the channel, you’ll get a notification every time we post.
Since hearing your feedback, we have added extra worktops and fridges to better suit the number of students in each kitchen
Our Welcome Events programme aims to capture both early and late arrivals with a range of events take place across a two week window in September 2025.
To help you prepare for the possibility of arriving at different times to flatmates, we included this message in our pre-arrival communications and made suggestions for things to do on campus and around Liverpool with flatmates once everyone has arrived.
Knowing that residents can receive lots of emails, we now send them from different addresses to help you identify who it’s coming from at a glance.
That way, you can see more clearly what a maintenance notification might be, a ‘what’s on’ email from Halls Life or a communication from the Accommodation Team.
We identified a gap in our communications around helping you to know how to clean and what is your responsibility. We’ve developed cleaning guides on Halls Life and social media content to ease you into cleaning as a beginner.
Our Residential Advisers also now provide a cleaning rota at the start of the year to help you share out the weekly cleaning tasks with your flatmates. If you didn’t receive one, you can request one at any time in the year.

Other feedback that has been noted and we're working towards improving:
We are working with University’s marketing team to refresh our catalogue of photos to help give applicants a better sense of our rooms. We’re aiming to have this carried out for next year’s intake.
To help with those pre-arrival FAQs, we’re working on a way for students to access information around room colour, size, location more easily for September 2026 intake.
We’re working with Circuit to make plans to upgrade older machines and our programme cycles in our Halls.
We will review our pre-arrival communications around to make sure that information on parking, arrival and directions is up to date and accurate as possible.
