As part of the year long Sustainable Halls programme, the Guild and Halls Life team are working together to bring you the first Halls recycling audit of the academic year on Tuesday 11th November 2025!
Recycling Audits help ensure residents are being as sustainable as possible when it comes to recycling. Twice a year, our very own students will audit recycling bins in kitchens to see just how well residents are recycling. The first audit will take place in November 2025 and the second in March 2026.
As well as having the opportunity to make a positive impact on the planet, the community and university halls, you can earn £12.60 per hour! This opportunity is open to students living in University Halls (Crown Place, Greenbank, Vine Court, Melville Grove, Tudor Close, Philharmonic Court, Dover Court).
What does the auditor role involve?
The audits will involve going into halls kitchens and checking whether the recycling bins are being used properly on Tuesday 11th November. Please note that you are expected to only carry out visual checks and you won't have to handle anything in the bins. You will be provided with feedback leaflets, an online form, and prizes to leave for flats which are recycling well. You will be expected to act courteously when visiting each flat.
To be accepted for this opportunity, you must attend a mandatory online training session from 5pm -6pm on the 6th November 2025. In this session, the Sustainable Halls team will demonstrate the usage of the feedback forms you’ll be using, as well as ensuring you understand how bins should be used and what waste goes where. We will also explain the appropriate conduct you must abide by when auditing people’s flats.
What shifts are available?
There are 3 audit slots available on Tuesday 11th November:
- 10am - 1pm - City Halls (Vine, Crown, Tudor, Philharmonic, Dover, Melville)
- 2pm - 5pm - City Halls (Vine, Crown, Tudor, Philharmonic, Dover, Melville)
- 2pm - 5pm - Greenbank Halls
You can sign up to both City Halls slots, or the morning City Halls and Greenbank slots, just not both afternoon slots! The applications will close on 31st October at 5pm unless all the places are filled beforehand.
What will the shift look like?
You will be expected to meet the sustainability team at an agreed location up to 30 minutes prior to the start of the slot you’ve signed up for so you can sign in. From there, you’ll be assigned an auditing team, given the supplies you need, and sent off to audit your assigned hall. You will need to bring an electronic device (phone or tablet) on which to record data, and a pen to fill out the leaflets you will be leaving in the flats you audit. On completion of your audit slot, you will return to the original meeting point, return any leftover supplies, and sign out.
We will assign you to a shift(s) based on your availability, and slots will be allocated on a first come first served basis. Head to the button above to sign up.
