What's on in Halls and around the city this winter

The festive season is upon us and we know yule love everything that's going on in Halls and around the city this Christmas! 

With just 20 days to go until the Christmas Day, we're sharing 20 festive inspired activities for you and your flatmates to make it a December to remember 🎄

1. Christmas Light Trail ✨

Wrap up warm and explore the twinkling lights of the Albert Dock! Don't miss this year's illuminations!

2. Christmas Carolling 🎵

The Tung is hosting lunchtime concerts and evening christmas carolling from different choirs across the city! If you've missed out on a free festive lunchtime concert, you can check out their student concession tickets for paid concerts here!

3. Sustainable Halls Big Holiday Quiz 💚

Put your festive trivia to the test at the Big Holiday Quiz in Crown Place at 6pm on Tuesday 10th December. Questions and prizes will have a sustainable twist. Come alone and team up on the night or bring up to 5 other quizzers with you! Find out more here.

4. Jingle Hall the Way 🔔

Join us for a pre-winter break get-together for Halls students! Expect all your festive favourites including a cheeseboard, mulled wine, christmas treats and live christmas singing! Check out the event details here.

5. Enter the Halls Christmas Competition 🏆

Are you and your flatmates decorating a tree this year? Baking something festive or making a christmas-inspired flat meal? We want to see all your festive celebrations this holiday season!

6. Explore the Christmas Markets 🍔

Pick up a festive sweet treat, grab a christmas present for a friend or have a sing-along at this year's Christmas markets in Liverpool's city centre. 

7. Halls for the Holidays Mixer 🍕

Staying on campus over the Winter Break? Come chat with other students who are also spending the break here on campus at the Halls for the Holidays Mixer. Head to Vine Mezz on Wednesday 18 December at 6pm.

8. Bake a festive treat 🧁

There's no better time to unwind with some christmas baking after a busy semester! Surprise your flatmates and friends with a sweet treat! Got some hot chocolate in the cupboard? Give these hot chocolate christmas cookies a go!

9. Catch up December's edition of Sustainable Halls

This month's theme of Sustainable Halls is a Winter Wrap Up. Check out our top tips for making a difference this December in Halls! Find out where you can donate unwanted items and volunteer this month.

10. Check out your HSC events 🎄

Halls Student Committees have been working hard to plan exciting events this festive period! Here's what's coming up...

🎄 Crown Place Quizmas - Thursday 5th Dec, Guild Cellar 7-9pm - expect prizes, competitions, quizzes, pizza & drinks!

🎄 Melville HSC Christmas Mixer - Friday 6th Dec, Vine Mezz 6-8pm - a festive get together for Melville residents with pizza!

🎄 Philharmonic HSC Festive Bauble Paint & Sip - Tuesday 10th Dec, Philharmonic Common room at 7pm - pizza & drinks provided!

🎄 Vine HSC Games Night - Tuesday 10th Dec, Vine Mezz 6pm-8pm - unwind with a festive games night with refreshments provided!

🎄 Tudor Winter Wonderland - Thursday 12th Dec, Vine Mezz 7pm - pizza & drinks with a winter theme! 

🎄 Vine HSC Aladdin Theatre Trip - SOLD OUT!

🎄 Dover Court HSC Christmas social - Friday 20th December, 6-8pm in Dover Common Room - details TBC!

11. Indulge in a hot chocolate 🍫

We'll never say no to a cup of warm hot chocolate goodness on a festive stroll! There are so many cosy cafés in Liverpool but these hot chocolates at Rough Handmade are giving all the festive feels! Perfect if you're in need of a sweet treat and warming up!

12. Explore the Christmas Courtyard ⛄

If you're out exploring the christmas lights at the Albert Dock, head to the Dock's Anchor Courtyard between 5th-30th December to explore a secret market square with market stalls and wood cabins. More details here!

13. Christmas Gift Event 🎁

On Wednesday 11 December, 11am-2pm you can do some Christmas shopping at The Spine (near to Crown Place). Expect stalls selling local, independent gifts!

14. Wrap up for a winter's walk 🧣

Check out our Exploring Liverpool page for some wintery-inspired walks to enjoy this December! Don't forget, Ness Gardens is just £1 for University of Liverpool students to visit. You can get there easily by bus and explore 64 acres of plants and wildlife before a visit to the café!

15. Check out December's Sustainable Actions 🌍

As part of Sustainable Halls programme, we bring you 5 small actions each month. We know 'being more sustainable' is a big phrase so we're here to help you break it down into smaller actions that you can take as an individual or with your flatmates! Read December's actions here!

16. Volunteer 💜

Christmas is considered to be the season of giving but of course volunteering is important at any time of year. The Guild have so many volunteering opportunities and advice for anyone interested in giving back this festive period! Click here for details!

17. Festive flat night in 🎬

Leaving halls for the winter break? why not get together for one last festive evening in! Get the hot chocolates, mince pies and your favourite christmas movie on! 

18. Donate your unwanted items 🥫

Each Hall reception will be collecting unwanted items for British Heart Foundation. Donate unwanted, non-perishable food items for Fareshare too! Simply drop off your unwanted items in Crown Place reception, Greenbank reception, Vine Court reception, Philharmonic Court reception and Dover Court reception. 

20. Pick up a Christmas Gift

Staying in Halls over the winter break? You'll be able to pick up a small gift from the Halls Life team from under the Christmas tree in your Hall reception. Available from 10am on Wednesday 25th December. Please only collect one gift per person. Available on a first come, first served basis! Find out more here.
