As part of the Sustainable Halls year long programme, your flat's kitchen bins will be audited in both November and March. By having our student auditors check your bins, we can see just how well you're separating your waste and recycling, as well as leave feedback as to what you and your flatmates can do better.
November's audits will take place on Tuesday 12th November between 9am-5pm 🕕
The Guild's Sustainability team have recruited and trained up a group of our very own residents to carry out the recycling audits.
Your score is based on well you and your flatmates separate non-recyclable and recyclable waste and whether your recyclables are clean. Here's a reminder of what bin is for what:
- A general waste bin for your day to day rubbish e.g. tinfoil, tissues and other non-recyclables
- A mixed recycling bin for paper, recyclable plastic, cardboard, tins, cans etc
- A food waste bin for food scraps, leftovers, peelings, teabags, bread, cooked and uncooked meat
- A recycling bin for glass e.g. bottles, jars (but remember that broken glass must go in a separate bin located usually under your sink)
Want to get your recycling into shape? Check out our tips to better recycling here!
You'll be left a feedback card with advice on how to improve your score next time. If you've scored well, you might even find a tasty ethical chocolate treat waiting for you!
Don't forget, your flat's score will contribute to your hall's overall score in the year long Sustainable Halls competition. The better your flat scores, the more you'll help your hall get closer to that end of year prize!
Please note that studios will not be audited. Audits will take just a couple of minutes to complete and during that time you can expect to see members of the team pop into the kitchen and take a look through your bins.
