Winning Hall announced in May! It's still all to play for đź’Ş

The semester has come to a close, so we’re going to take the chance to look back on this terms events, as well as the results from March’s recycling audit and the halls competition overall!

Our events so far (and what’s left to come!)

We kicked off semester 2 with a wellbeing cooking session. Seven of you came along to cook a delicious vegan stew with garlic flatbreads on the side.

We’ve also made beeswax wraps, painted plant pots, learnt how to sew, visited Ness Gardens – and there’s so much more to come still!

March's Recycling Audits ♻️

This semester’s recycling audit produced some really useful data and some great results for all halls. Here’s how each hall scored (5 is the highest possible score):

-          Crown Place – 4.45

-          Melville Grove – 4.38

-          Tudor Close – 4.19

-          Philharmonic Court – 4.18

-          Greenbank Student Village – 4.15

-          Vine Court – 4.10

-          Dover Court – 4.01

As you can see, there’s not much between the scores! From our data, we’ve found the following issues to be the biggest problem:

-          Dirty mixed recycling – rinse and dry your tins, bottles, cans, jars before you recycle them to avoid contaminating the rest of the bin

-          Other items in the glass bin (it’s only for glass, nothing else!)

-      Missing recycling poster - if your poster has gone walkabout, speak to the reception team

The overall Sustainable Halls score (so far)!

Every event you attended, quiz you took part in, activity pack submission you made, and every recycling audit score has contributed to your hall’s score in the competition this year.

Crown Place have taken 1st place followed by Melville Grove and Tudor Close! Greenbank have moved down the leaderboard from 1st to 4th place. Here’s the ranking as it stands (March 2026):

-          1st place: Crown Place

-          2nd place: Melville Grove

-          3rd place: Tudor Close

-          4th place: Greenbank Student Village

-          5th place: Philharmonic Court

-          6th place: Dover Court

-          7th place: Vine Court

There are still plenty of events left, so make sure to come along to boost your hall’s score! It’s still all to play for!

The winning Hall will be announced in May and will be awarded a celebration prize - stay tuned!!

We hope you have a relaxing (and sustainable) Spring Break, and we hope to see you at one of the upcoming events!
