Sustainable spending in Liverpool

By hannahk 04 Nov 2022

Liverpool is home to a number of eco-friendly and sustainability conscious businesses and fortunately many of them are near to where your new home is!

Local markets

Shopping locally supports local jobs and sustainable choices made by smaller, independent businesses which helps them thrive! Good Liverpool is an example of just one market local in Liverpool which prides itself on sustainable choices in terms of selling natural, cruelty free, vegan products from local vendors. The perfect place to shop if you’re looking for a birthday present for a friend (or just a treat for yourself!). Good Liverpool hosts several markets a month in some of Liverpool’s best locations in the city centre (good for those living on campus) but also in pubs and churches local to Greenbank Student Village.

Purple Carrot

Purple Carrot is an organic food shop on Smithdown Road, perfect for those living at Greenbank! They sell organic fruits and veg as well as sweets & treats. Also body care products and refill stations. It has everything you’d ever need!

Purple Carrot is less than 15 minutes walk away from Greenbank Student Village.

Shared Earth, Bold Street

Shared Earth sells fair trade, eco, recycled and ethical products. It sells anything from homeware and body care to accessories and gifts. The perfect place to kit out your new room! Located on Bold Street, Shared Earth is just a 15-minute walk from campus or 5-minute bus journey.

Liv Organic, Bold Street

Another Bold Street favourite! Here you’ll find organic, natural produce as well as eco home and beauty products. It’s not just a shop but a market too so you can shop organic, vegetarian and vegan foods plus a juice and smoothie bar. What more could you ask for? Again, just a 15-minute walk from campus or 5-minute bus journey.

Charity shops, Bold Street

Shopping in charity shops are a great way to promote sustainable fashion. Charity shops help us to reuse and recycle clothing. Home to a number of charity shops including Oxfam, Barnardo’s and British Heart Foundation, you won’t be short for choice on Bold Street.

Through the Guild we work closely with British Heart Foundation, particularly in the 'Leave Liverpool Tidy campaign'. This will be your opportunity to donate your unwanted goods at the end of the year so others can enjoy pre loved goods!
