Leave Liverpool Tidy - donate your belongings!

By hannahk 19 May 2023

Donate your unwanted belongings to the British Heart Foundation and FareShare!

As the end of term approaches, you might be thinking about packing up all your stuff! To reduce the amount of waste going to landfill and to support the British Heart Foundation, we are working with the Guild to create donation points in Halls.

Don't dump it, donate it! Look out for large red British Heart Foundation Boxes in your reception as well as Fareshare boxes where you can donate unwanted dried food items.

Why donate?

In 2022, University of Liverpool students donated 763 bags of unwanted items. This meant that 6,104 tonnes of waste were diverted from landfill. Not only does this have a positive impact on the environment by reducing the amount of waste, but also helps raise funds for charity. Donating your food to FareShare supports the fight against food poverty and waste in the UK. We're all about reducing, reusing and recycling!

What can you donate?

Unwanted clothing, shoes, bags, accessories, books, computer games, CDs, DVDs, electrical items, crockery and homeware.

They will not accept knives, hangers or dirty and damaged items. Pillows and duvets cannot be donated.

Any food items donated to FareShare should be dried, unopened and non-perishable food.

How can you donate?

Food donations go to Fareshare, using the Fareshare donation box. Clothing and home items go to British Heart Foundation using their donation boxes. Both donation boxes will be in your Hall reception already.

There are also on-site permanent bank locations outside of Vine Court, Dover Court, Greenbank and Peach Street Car Park.

Please place your unwanted items into a clean bag and please tie it to make sure nothing gets damaged or falls out. Place the bags in the donation boxes in Reception or the permanent donation banks.
